The Wisconsin PGA gathered on Friday to enjoy one of the great traditions of the section. After being derailed by thunderstorms back in June, the rescheduled Hornung's Classic would make its annual stop at South Hills G&CC. It marked just the second time the event has been forced to take place later in the calendar in the past 15 years.

With the shift to the fall there was definitely some added intrigue. The event would mark the final in-state player of the year point event for all three WPGA races. Titles, purse dollars for the races, and spots onto the 2023 Nelthorpe Cup team were at stake.

Finding his fall golf groove once again was Appleton native Kurt Mantyla. The man that seems to up his game a notch when the colors turn, put up the best performance on a cool and breezy day. His 2-under-par 69 was just one of two scores under par. The round featured four birdies and two bogeys en route to sweeping the board in all three purse contests (regular, player's and senior). Finishing just one shot back was the 2020 Hornung's Classic champion, Tom Burton of Hidden Glen GC.
